Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Chronic Sinusitis?
  • What are my treatment options for chronic sinusitis?
  • What is Balloon Sinuplasty™?
  • What are the benefits of having the Balloon Sinuplasty™ procedure in-office?
  • Chronic sinusitis is a common condition where your sinus cavities become swollen for at least 12 weeks – despite treatment attempts. This impacts drainage, which leads to mucus buildup. Chronic sinusitis can be caused by an infection, nasal polyps (growths in sinuses) or by a deviated nasal septum. It is a condition that is commonly seen in young and middle-aged adults.

  • If you suffer from sinus issues, your ENT specialist will work with you to determine the best treatment plan. Some options include nasal sprays, antibiotics, oral steroids, CT scans and in-office endoscopies.

When medications (i.e. decongestants, nasal steroids) no longer work and only give you temporary relief, you might be a candidate for sinus surgery or Balloon Sinuplasty™.

  • Unlike traditional sinus surgery, Balloon Sinuplasty™ is a simple and safe procedure that requires no cutting of nasal bone or tissue. It’s used to relieve the pain and pressure associated with chronic sinusitis.

A tiny, flexible balloon is placed into the nose to reach the blocked sinuses and then inflated to restructure the sinus opening. And in most cases, you can have this effective procedure, be home in less than two hours and back to your usual routine in a couple of days or sooner.

  • Patients undergo local anesthesia.

It’s a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small device that’s inserted through the nostril to gently open the blocked sinus openings.

Most patients have a fast recovery and return to normal activities or work within 2 days.

The procedure is performed in the comfort of your doctor’s office rather than in a hospital operating room.

96% of patients experience positive results, and the majority of patients recommend the in-office procedure to family and friends.
